What we should keep in mind first, while talking about religions and prophets, is their ultimate purpose. Why most of the religions are introduced and prophets are sent to the uncivilized people of their times? Jewism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism etc. are the religions introduced to the most backward and suppressed people of their times. The prophets are sent to the downtrodden, ignorant and intellectually and culturally suppressed nations or groups of people.
Imagine the miseries of children of israel when Moses was sent to them. What kind of people the earliest followers of Christ were? And who were the followers of the Prophet Muhammad in the early islam? If the intellectual capacity or material success is criteria of to be worthy of honor and respect in the eyes of God, why the prophets were not sent to the civilized people of those times. It seems as if the material or worldly success means nothing to God. He introduced His religions, and sent His prophets to the most uneducated and ignorant people of their times. On the other hand I think it is needless to ask what the civilized, educated and so called enlightened people did with the prophets. They have always been the first ones to oppose their messages. This is what we actually need to learn from the lives of prophets.
Once the people are so called enlightened by poets, philosophers, artists, politicians, businessmen and such other people, it seems, their souls remain no more worthy of any divine communication. They people who have been working and striving for the betterment of this world how can they understand the concept of the betterment of hereafter, the sole purpose of all the religions and prophets.
The case of modern people is not different from the case of modern people in past. They are brought up and educated by artists, politicians and businessmen (all non spiritual people) how can they understand any spiritual message. If their growth and understanding have been developed under saintly teachings, they might have understood it in the very first sight.
Now the people who are found mostly talking about prophets and religions are the people educated under poetical and political concepts. No doubt they are honest in their expression of understanding. I cant dare contradict any one here. I can feel in the very core of his heart he is true. But i just want to make a humble request to all these fellows. They should give me a concession of doubt. For few moments they should try to stop depending on their previous knowledge.
We know that the people of science take very little interest in poets, philosophers or other artistic people. Mostly they seem unable to understand poetical or artistic expressions. In the same way artists seem having little to do with science or the scientists. Though both of them are working for the welfare of humanity each one is unable to understand the worth of other. Do you think a pure scientist can understand and enjoy a poem more than a pure poet? Do you think a pure poet can take interest in scientific research more than a pure scientist? Leaving aside the exceptional cases I hope you will say that they don't take interest in each others work. Yet we know that a hundred percent scientist can be a one percent poet, and a hundred percent poet can be a one percent scientist. This is all because of the power of imagination.
A non spiritual person can say something about spiritual world and hereafter. But what the actual spiritualist can say is and shall ultimately be of more importance. And for whom the words of an actual spiritualist shall be of more importance? Of course for one who is also a spiritualist at heart.
The like qualities recognize, understand and appreciate each other more than all other qualities. A successful administrator can judge the administrative quality in another person more than a poet or musician. A great poet cant judge the poetic talent of a younger poet more than any other person. A person can hum a tune and I shall appreciate his humming. But if there is a musician he will judge his humming up to the art of music. I was unable to do it because I was not a musician.
While talking about the lives of prophets we should keep in our minds that they were spiritual in their very existence. They were spiritual and nothing more. Whatever they preached and did in their lives they did according to the rules of spirituality. They had nothing else in their hearts. Their foremost preference was to live this earthly life under the rules of spirit and God, not under the rules of politicians and poets.
Each and and every action in the life of prophet Muhammad (saw) was based on first the direct revelation or commandment of God and second on eternal spiritual rules. The saints of islam has not been like the celibates of other religions. I have not heard about the saints of other religions marrying so much as I have heard about the saint of islam. In my practice and concept I think islam is the only religion that allows a person to develop his spirit even living in family, wife and children. And the great muslim saints have been under this practice too. Women and sex were not hindering in their way of spiritualism. They become hindering when we possess no spirit and try to be spiritual while following the directions of our mind merely. Islamic spiritualism is different from telepathic or mesmerismic spiritualism of the other religions. They are but the paths of mind not the spirit.
If you are confused with this difference in spiritualism let me explain it in my humble way. The spiritual practices in other religions seem something like power grabbing activities. The spiritualist seem thirsty of or hungry after certain mysterious powers. To succeed in their way they have to do certain odd things. The muslim spiritualists dont run after powers. Rather, they sacrifice the natural powers of judgments and desires of progress God gifted them with in their way of spiritualism and leave everything up to God. They dont do anything under their own power or desire.
The killing of non believers (with the exemption of christians and jews) was made lawful under the divine commandment. Even the muslims of those days did not like to do it yet they did it to fulfill the command or order of God. The job of a prophet is to fulfill the orders of God not to argue with Him.

Even the muslims of those days did not like to do it yet they did it to fulfill the command or order of God. The job of a prophet is to fulfill the orders of God not to argue with Him. The marriages and rights of women were also not prescribed under any personal interest but to fulfill the order of God.
If you like to see the things socially and culturally you cannot understand why these marriages were performed and why the rights of women were not equal to those of men. But if you are an islamic spiritualist you can understand in a minute.
With the grace of God, I am educated, trained and brought up as a spiritualist with, I can understand of what spiritual composition a woman is made up by nature. It is her spiritual lacking that matters not her intellectual and physical lacking. If a person is a spiritualist no body can stop him developing his spiritual tendency. If the women were naturally spiritualists, at least as spiritualists as men, in the coming centuries they might have proved their spiritual Worth without restraint. But they could not. With the exception of very few, and that too in a kind of non islamic way, we dont find as many women saints in islam as we find in all other religions. I have already told that sorcery, foretelling, witchcraft or any such thing has nothing to do with islamic spiritualism. They are all considered the expressions of mental capacities.
In the same way I can understand of what importance the function of marriage is in the life of a spiritualist. I can also understand when your ultimate goal to is subjugate before the will of God, how difficult it is to live with a woman and family. It seems a kind of real trial.
The marriages of prophet Muhammad (saw) are discussed under various headings. I have never heard any one talking about his marriages as a trial of a spiritualist. Of course to discuss them under this title one has to be a spiritualist first, that the most of the arguers are not.
The spiritualists are tried and tried and tried. There is no escape from this fact. All their lives God puts them in this trial and that. They are not left untried even for a while. In every moment of their life they are under some trial. Read the lives of the prophets of old testament. Do you find any untried or untrialed.
And it is a very familiar saying in spiritualism that the trials of prophet are always of more pressing a nature than the trials of a saint in his followers. The trials of prophet Muhammad (saw) were of greater magnitude than our trials. Since the first revelation the span of twenty three years was a long and permanent trial for him. There was hardly a moment in his life that he was not doing this thing or that. How difficult it was for a person who spent early forty years of his life in a complete inactivity. How difficult it was for a recluse to be so social in his later years. How difficult it was for a widower who had spent twenty five years with a woman fifteen years older than him to live with a girl of six or nine. How difficult it was for a person to perform the orders of killing the non believers when all his previous life he had been merciful even to the animals. There is no such evidence that the prophet Muhammad had killed even a single person with own hands except the person killed accidentally. Wasn't it a trial to face your own kins in wars. Do you find any other example of a person fighting with kith and kins as Muhammad (saw) had to fight and kill.
Each and every action in the life of Prophet Muhammad (saw) was a trial in the way of his spiritual growth. Do you think there has never been any spiritual growth in prophets? that they remain the same from their first day to the last? Certainly, their has been a spiritual growth in the prophets. When they die they are more knowledgeable than they were on their first revelation. How their spiritual growth is possible if there are no trials.
Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Solomon, John, Zakaria Christ, is there any one who was not put into any trial. I just want to make a humble request to my readers that they should not try to understand the life of Muhammad (saw) with their minds full of modern philosophical and political thinkings. He is of course not a role a model for any such person interested in street sex or the business of skin tight jeans. How he can be? He was not sent to preach us lesbianism, gayism, film making, business communication or atomic energy plants. He was sent to develop our spirits. If we have no spirit and our aim is to be a Hollywood star we should not take him as a role model. Any Hollywood star is better for this.
But if our aim is to try in the way of God, to communicate with His Spirit, to live our lives under spiritual progress, he is the only role model we can have in the community of prophets.
